We’ve all heard the saying that 80% of weight loss is in the kitchen. Even if you aren’t trying to lose weight but just seeking to maintain a healthy lifestyle, it can be tricky to go out to eat and feel like you are putting good food into your body. And of course, one of our favorite things to do in Fort Collins is go out to eat! So here are a few of the best healthy restaurants in Northern Colorado—many of which use local, farm fresh ingredients.

Door 222

Fort Collins has the reputation as having a high number of restaurants per capita. So, Fort Collinites might not need to venture out of the city to find amazing, local eats. But you’re really missing out if you haven’t been to Door 222 in Loveland. This upscale restaurant serves tapas, lunch, and dinner using as many local ingredients as possible. They use locally sourced beef, vegetables from local farmers like Croft Family Farm, and mushrooms from Hazel Dell.

The Gold Leaf Collective

For vegans or anyone trying to eat more plant-based, the struggle is real to find a good place to eat out. Thank goodness for The Gold Leaf Collective! The Gold Leaf started as a plant-based food truck, which continues to travel around today. But their brick-and-mortar is on Laurel St. close to campus, and is owned and operated by a local family. Vegans and non-vegans alike will find tasty small plates and meals on their menu.

Okole Maluna

If you’re in the mood for something different and healthy, you must visit Okole Maluna in Windsor. This Hawaiian and Pacific Rim inspired menu was created by island-born Chef Andy. And as you can imagine, Hawaiian cuisine has lots of healthy, fresh seafood offerings. Chef Andy loves to cook with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, just like they do in Oahu where he was raised.

Snack Attack

Snack Attack is one of our beloved sponsors, but we love them so much because they serve up delicious and nutritious sandwiches, salads, and more. As much as possible, the use locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients. Their ingredients are all natural, and often organic. Plus, if you haven’t been there, it’s just a great place to hang out. They have events throughout the week like Bingo, and tons of local brews too.
